Satwa Stories : An art project I was involved with in Dubai

Satwa Stories is an art project that in its initial avatar will be showing tonight in the form of a multimedia presentation at the Third Line Gallery as part of a series called Pecha Kucha

A big story about the project was written about this morning in the Gulf News supplement, Tabloid. Have a read here http://www.gulfnews.com/tabloid/Society/10223483.html (Thats one of my pictures on the cover!)

Niyaz is holding the largest piece of naan ive ever seen! How many of those can you eat??

How come noone protests against the reconstruction of Satwa?

Verry nice. I'm guessing your photos are the ones in the slideshow that come captioned as "Supplied Photo"?

The guy with the photo frames is really good too. Looks like he's privy to an in-joke somewhere.

@ajaxus: yeah the images credited as 'supplied photo' are mine... :)

hopefully this project is a step towards stepping into the dubai art world.. now if only I could come up with a project of my own.. hmm..

How often on yr assignments do you get to dabble in other forms of media like the filmmakers in this case?
Must beat the usual CEO against high-rise window shots for Forbes.

Speaking abt projects - have you heard of the 'Up' Documentaries?
Directed by Michael Apted - its abt a bunch of ppl who the filmmaker visits every 7 yrs and traces their life in the interim - hopes, dreams, successes and failures.

@ajaxus: actually the CEO shots can be extremely interesting and fun! they quite often beat model/fashion shoots.. most models are terribly boring!!
as far being able to dabble in other forms of media, this is actually my first foray into the Dubai art scene.. lets see how it goes.. i am feeling pretty kicked about starting up my own project..its ideas that are the problem!! lol
and no, i havent heard about the Up documentaries ..will look it up. In the meanwhile check out 'Being Osama' a docu directed by Mahmoud Kaabour (one of the directors of Satwa Stories) excellent little film about people named 'Osama'
